Marty's Introduction

Hi Designing for Flexible Delivery classmates. This first post is just a quick intro with a couple of photos so you can get to know me a little better. I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to computers, but I'm having fun learning more about them. I think that Ted's class will prove extremely helpful for me.

Photos: NEW HAMPSHIRE, USA 1996, and DINNER PLAIN, VIC 2005.

I thought that you'd be interested in these photos of me and my favourite sport, as there are not many Aussies that participate in the sport of Sle
d Dog Racing. I don't do too much racing now, but I still get involved as a race official or race organiser a couple of times a year.

I'm a Physical Trainer in the Navy and due to my experience, age, and rank I mainly deal with Sports Administration these days. I also hold the position of Senior Instructor at the Australian Defence Force Physical Training School (ADFPTS) at HMAS CERBERUS, near Hastings. This is where the Australian Defence Force (ADF) conducts training for various trades and specialisations such as Engineering, Electronics, Storepeople, Cooks, and of course Physical Trainers (PT). During my younger days I instructed group fitness sessions, officiated at various sports, facilitated adventurous training and conducted personal training, but I don't do much of those activities anymore. Sports administration, fitness facility management and PT course co-ordination are the major tasks that I do these days.

I'm married to Harriet, whom I met in Seattle, USA in 1983 and we have a 4 year old daughter named Mathilda.

I'm looking forward to sharing ideas and comments during the Online Discussion sessions and learning more about how software and hardware can benefit and enhance industry and training needs. I look forward to reading your comments and looking at your Blogs too.

I'll periodically update my Blog here with more text and photos, so please visit here again soon.

Cheers,

Marty

Hello Marty,

Wow! You are really fast. I am in the midst of getting the photos so as to make my blog more lively and with 'character'. I can see that you are such an asset to the Navy. You must have had enriching experience in the Navy. Your daughter looks pretty shy in the shot, just like the father. I agree with you that Ted's class would definitely help people us with not much of experience with stuff like Blogs. I do hope we strive hard and successfully accomplish this module. You take care....Fuzzy

Wow Marty,

What an excellent way to start your blog. I particularly love the fact that you have added in the photos of yourself and your family what a great personal touch. They are fantastic, and you can definatley see that you are a master at computers! I wish i was as talented with them as you are. The photos of you with the dogs reminds me of the following 2 movies: Snow Dogs with Cuba Gooding jnr, and the other is Eight Below. Have you seen any of these movies i have mentioned? Eight below is based on a true story and it made me cry and Snow dogs is just pure fiction, but is great nonetheless, so if you haven't seen either, then you must rent the dvd's out and let me know what you think. Hope to hear from you soon. Keep up the great work!

Cheers

Great to hear from all of you.

Maryann, I've seen those two movies plus another that is an excellent sled dog movie is Walt Disney's "Iron Will" (Inspired by a true story). It's set in the early 1900's. I'm sure that you would like it too.

See you all soon,

Marty
